Kicking off the fundraiser

"Hi everyone, this is the nonprofit I've been helping for years. Never went anywhere because it's very difficult, plus I always considered myself 'inexperienced'.

Originally we wanted to raise funds to build a delivery ward and birthing center for the 12k people in Narumu village, never successfully raised any money. But we never gave up, kept meeting people and asking for help, only to finally realized that we should help ourselves instead of waiting for the others.

So now we just set up this GoFundMe page, ask you all to step up and help. We want to raise 20k dollars so Dorothy could go back to Tanzania and buy an old ambulance.

It's not that kind of ambulance in America, no need medical equipment inside, just a steady van with beds, so mothers could be rushed to hospital 30 miles (50 km) away. In this way, lives will be saved.

If you see my post, please feel free to click the link to check more information, and please share among your friends and colleagues, maybe your company will match up your donation. And please help out and donate, any amount will do.

I know right now all the attention is in Ukraine and most probably you already donated to them. Your kindness is what makes this world a better place, your generosity is what builds up an umbrella to shelter those who are torn and weak. Only in this way, humanity will prevail.

The mothers and babies in Narumu depend on us to save their lives, so please don't hesitate to protect them and show them love as well. They will forever be grateful for you!"

It's not a good time to start but I can't help it. Who would donate would anyways, who wouldn't will never no matter when. Also, the kicking-off date is not a big deal here, the fundraiser will last until somehow reaching the goal, maybe months even longer. Will see and change strategies along the way.

For now, I am sharing with anyone out there, at least people now know the existence of this fundraiser. Let them have some time to think about it, then we will keep sharing something, then maybe one day when someone is in good mood, they might go ahead and help out.

Thought about all the ways if we could make this a business: make money through business transactions, build up the nonprofit like a start-up. But what possible business is there in a village where mothers and babies die because they can't reach the hospital?

There is a lot of potential though, the key is one day I myself go to Narumu and discover. Maybe build medical personnel ex-pat programs, maybe something to do with ethnic crafts or children's arts.

There's so much to do for the children and women there, and this is in fact one thing I really want to do with my life, besides writing sci-fi.

All I know is, through all these years of experience, now I kinda know one thing or two about charity and nonprofit, in the future I could build up any nonprofit according to the need of that locality. Maybe more to do with Africa, maybe India.

Now that we have a close circle of friends who suddenly dug open a gold mine, I wish collectively, we could do something to help the world. Well, actually, no expectation to the others, but never mind, I know I will definitely do more.

And sometimes that's very much enough.

Believe in yourself.

And Raj was like: "Self-deprecation, if you use it too much.... if you don't sound confident, who else will believe in you? If S was like 'hey, I've been asking for funds but never got any, now could you give me 3 million?', you think investors would give him now?"

I was like: "ok ok, you don't know women unconsciously depreciate themselves, just because of the way we have been treated our whole life? bla bla bla... "

So now the post changed to:

"Hi everyone, this is the nonprofit I've been helping for years. Originally we wanted to raise funds to build a delivery ward and birthing center for the 12k people in Narumu village, it has been difficult but we will continue to work towards it. And we never gave up, kept meeting people and asking for help, only to finally realized that we should help ourselves instead of waiting for the others.

So now we just set up this GoFundMe page to meet the immediate need, and ask you all to step up and help. We want to raise 20k dollars so Dorothy could go back to Tanzania and buy an old ambulance.

It's not that kind of ambulance in America....."
